Calypso

The oldest and largest planet in Entropia Universe, a colonised alien world where settlers hunt wild creatures, mine resources, and craft and trade inside a real cash economy pegged to the US dollar. Settled since 2003, it remains the busiest world in the universe, with the most diverse economy and content of any planet.

About Calypso

Calypso launched in 2003 as Project Entropia and was the entire game for six years, before the universe split into separate planets and Calypso became one of them. Everything the rest of Entropia Universe was built on was worked out here first, which is why it is still where most players are and where most of the community knowledge lives.

The land is split between two continents. Eudoria holds the arrival point at Camp Icarus, the trade floor at Port Atlantis and most of the low level hunting grounds. Amethera is the older, wilder half, where the land areas and the harder spawns are. New avatars land on Eudoria and most never run out of reasons to stay there.

If you are starting the game and have no particular reason to be somewhere else, start here. Population is worth more than any other single factor when you are learning: more people to ask, more activity in every market, and better coverage of every creature and resource in resources like this wiki.

The hunting ladder

Not a list of favourites: eight rungs from the first thing a new avatar shoots to the one nobody solos. Health and level come straight from the wiki.

Mission chains worth doing

Each one opens at its first step, and that page draws the whole chain, so a single link is the entire thing.

Tutorial Chain

The guided path off the arrival platform. Twenty steps that hand you a weapon, walk you through hunting, mining and crafting, and leave you at Port Atlantis knowing what the terminals do.

Pays A starter weapon and ammunition on the first step, then skill gains throughout.

Camp Icarus

The short arrival chain that introduces the officers at Camp Icarus and the ground immediately around it. Worth doing before you leave for the mainland.

Pays Mostly progression. Its value is the tour, not the payout.

Vault Hunter

The longest chain on the planet. A story about opening a sealed door that runs through strange pillars, three sacred sites and a lot of ground you would otherwise never visit.

Pays Paid out across the chain rather than at the end.

Mount Hephaistos Vaccine

A self contained story chain on the island, built around a poison and the vaccine for it. One of the better written sequences Calypso has.

Pays Mission Tokens and Combat Tokens at each step, starting with 6 and 60.

The Enigma Keys

A puzzle chain out of Port Atlantis, alternating story stages with hunting and mining tasks, so it moves you between professions rather than grinding one.

Pays A booster and a limited extender on the first stage.

Mad Prophet

Robot killing framed as a religion. Two hundred Troopers or Droka to start, and the chain gets stranger from there.

Pays Nothing on the opening step. This one is for the story and the kill count.

Leviathan Fin Collection

The Fort Cayuze ladder, measured in tons of Leviathan rather than kills. A long grind with a clear finish line, which is why people still run it.

Pays Dodge, starting at 0.80 PED equivalent and climbing with each rank.

Lysterium Mining Challenge

One of a dozen mining ladders, one per ore, each six stages long. Lysterium is the one new miners finish first because it is the ore they find most.

Pays Prospecting and Mining skill, 0.3 PED each on the opening stage.

The migration

Eomon and Longu move onto the continent in numbers for a few weeks. Their skins and hides are only lootable while it runs, which is why the market for them moves every year.

The story, as the missions tell it

No invented lore. Every beat below is content that is in the game, and the link opens the mission it comes from.

  1. You arrive as a colonist

Every avatar lands at Camp Icarus with nothing, and the officers there put you to work immediately. The opening chain is written as a briefing rather than a tutorial, and the first thing anyone asks you to do is shoot at drones.

    Target Practice
  2. The robots are already here

Calypso has a standing robot war, and it is the backdrop to a large share of the planet content. Troopers and Droka are the infantry of it, and the missions that send you at them are among the oldest on the planet.

    The Mad Prophet chain
  3. Something is sealed on the mainland

The Vault Hunter chain runs twenty four steps on the premise that scientists are trapped behind a door nobody can open, and sends you through strange pillars and three sacred sites looking for the way in.

    Vault Hunter
  4. And something is poisoning the island

The Mount Hephaistos chain starts as hired killing and turns into a hunt for a vaccine, complete with a downed tank and a black box. It is the closest Calypso gets to a self contained short story.

Questions people ask about Calypso

Is Calypso a good planet to start on?

Yes, and for most new players it is the right one. It has the largest population in Entropia Universe, which means more people to ask, faster markets, and the best community coverage of its creatures and resources. Nothing stops you moving later: your avatar, skills, items and PED travel with you.

How do I get to Calypso?

New avatars start there by default, at Camp Icarus. From another planet you travel through space, either on a scheduled service or with a private ship. Space is one of the few places in the game where what you are carrying can be taken from you, so move valuables carefully.

What is the difference between Eudoria and Amethera?

They are the planet's two continents. Eudoria holds the arrival point, Port Atlantis and most of the low level hunting grounds. Amethera is the wilder half, where most of the privately held land areas and the harder spawns are.

Does Calypso have a codex?

Yes. Calypso is the planet the codex system is most complete on, and it is the only planet this wiki currently holds codex data for. Killing a species contributes to its codex rank whether or not you are on a mission for it.

What is the best creature to hunt on Calypso?

It depends entirely on what you can afford to lose. The ladder on this page runs from Snablesnot, which the starter weapon kills, up to Atrox Queen, which is a team target. Most players spend their first months somewhere between Argonaut and Atrox.
