Entropia Universe has no subscription and no purchase price, and you can play indefinitely without ever depositing. This page is about what that actually looks like, because the honest version is more useful than the encouraging one.
Sweating
Sweating is the classic free-to-play activity. You use a Mind Force tool that costs nothing to fire on a creature, and it produces Vibrant Sweat, which is a material other players buy.
- The tool required is available from the trade terminal and does not decay in the way weapons do, so the activity has no running cost beyond your time.
- Sweat is sold to other players in bulk, usually through the auction or in dedicated sweat camps where organised buyers operate.
- The pay per hour is low. This is unskilled labour in a real economy, and it is priced accordingly.
Sweating is how a lot of players fund their very first weapon and ammunition. It is also the least interesting hour of the game, so treat it as a means to an end.
Other zero-cost or near-zero-cost routes
- Free missions and events. Planets run introductory mission chains that pay small rewards, and community organisers frequently run free-entry events. These are worth doing regardless.
- Collecting and reselling. Some low-value materials can be gathered with cheap or free tools and sold to players above their trade terminal price.
- Services. Players pay other players for healing in a hunting team, for transport, for crafting a batch of items, or for running an auction sale on their behalf. This scales with reputation rather than with equipment, so it is available to a new avatar with time to spend.
- Contributing outside the game. Community sites, guides and tools are largely built by players. That is not PED, but it is a way to be part of the economy without money.
Building a bankroll from zero
The realistic path from nothing looks like this:
- Do every free mission on your starting planet.
- Sweat or gather until you have enough for a cheap weapon and a stock of ammunition.
- Hunt small creatures with cheap gear, keeping the cost per kill as low as it will go.
- Sell loot that carries markup to players rather than to the trade terminal.
- Reinvest, slowly.
Each step multiplies a small number by a small number. It works, and it takes a long time.
The honest version
Playing without depositing is possible but it is not fast, and it is not a way to make money. The economy takes value out of circulation continuously through decay and fees, which means the average participant ends a period with less than they started, before markup. A player with no deposits is not exempt from that arithmetic, they are just funding it with time instead of money.
What free play is genuinely good for:
- Learning the game before deciding whether to spend anything on it.
- Playing at a pace you can sustain forever, with no budget to blow.
- Finding out whether you enjoy the game itself rather than the thrill of a large loot.
What it is not good for: getting rich, keeping up with players who deposit, or reaching high-level content in any reasonable time.
If you do decide to deposit
Set a budget first, in real money, and treat it as the cost of entertainment rather than an investment. The one habit that separates players who enjoy this game for years from players who leave angry is deciding the number before playing rather than during.
How money enters and leaves the game covers the mechanics of both directions.
