# Customising your profile > The parts of your profile you control, the picture, cover and video rules, and why links are rejected in your about text. What you can change is the presentation around it: a picture, a cover banner, a short profile video, a line about yourself, and links to where else you can be found. This page covers all of it and the rules each field is checked against. Everything here needs an account with a [claimed avatar](https://www.entropiacentral.com/documentation/account/creating-an-account#what-happens-to-your-avatar-name), and all of it is edited on the website. The mobile app and Entropia Central Tracker display profiles but do not upload to them. ## Where each thing is edited There are two places, split by whether you are editing text or media. | What | Where | | --- | --- | | Avatar name, email, about, social links | Dashboard, **Edit Profile** | | Profile picture, cover image, profile video | Your own avatar page, or the profile card on your dashboard home | The media controls only appear when you are looking at your own avatar page, since they are the same page everyone else sees. ## The text fields | Field | Rules | | --- | --- | | Avatar name | Must match an avatar we already have recorded, and it must be unclaimed. Changing it unlinks the previous one | | Email | Must not be registered to another account | | About | 250 characters, plain text | | Discord username | 32 characters. A username, not an invite link | | Twitch channel | Full URL, must begin `https://www.twitch.tv/` or `https://twitch.tv/` | | YouTube channel | Full URL, must begin `https://www.youtube.com/` or `https://youtube.com/` | Changing your avatar name is the one with consequences. If the name exists and nobody has claimed it, it becomes yours and your old avatar is released. If somebody else already claimed it, the change is refused and support has to move it with proof of ownership. ### Why your about text keeps getting rejected The about field is checked hard, and the three rejections people hit are all deliberate: **No angle brackets.** `<` and `>` are refused outright, so no HTML and nothing that looks like a tag. **No links, and no domains either.** `http://`, `https://`, `ftp://` and `www.` are blocked, and so is anything shaped like a domain name, meaning a word followed by `.com`, `.net`, `.org`, `.io`, `.tv`, `.gg`, `.me`, `.co`, `.info`, `.biz`, `.dev`, `.app`, `.pro` or `.site`. That last rule catches ordinary sentences: writing "find me on discord.gg" is refused even though you meant it as prose. Put the link in the Discord, Twitch or YouTube field instead, which is what those fields are for. **Profanity is filtered.** The check runs on whole words, so it does not trip on words that merely contain something. An empty about clears the field. There is no draft or review step: whatever saves is live. ## Profile picture and cover image Open your own avatar page and use the camera control on the header. The picture is square and the cover is a wide banner across the top of the page, so a portrait crop makes a poor cover. Both can be removed again from the same dialog. Land area owners edit their pages the same way, covered in [land areas](https://www.entropiacentral.com/documentation/directory/land-areas#images-and-video). ## Profile video A short looping video can sit on your profile in place of a still picture. It plays muted and on repeat, so it works best as a few seconds of something, not a clip with a beginning and an end. **Removing a profile video is not implemented yet.** Uploading another one replaces it, which is the way to change your mind for now. ## Upload rules The same limits apply everywhere on the site that takes an upload, including [media on your globals](https://www.entropiacentral.com/documentation/globals/photos-on-your-globals) and land area pages. | | Images | Video | | --- | --- | --- | | Formats | JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP | WebM only | | Maximum size | 5 MB | 3 MB | WebM is the only accepted video format and nothing is converted for you, so anything recorded as MP4 has to be converted before it will upload. Two things happen to an image on the way in. **PNG is kept as PNG**, so transparency survives; everything else is re-encoded as JPEG. And **all embedded metadata is stripped**, meaning EXIF, IPTC, XMP and colour profiles are discarded. That removes camera and location data from screenshots before anyone else can read it. ## Review, and what is public Uploads appear straight away. They are not held for approval first. They are reviewed afterwards, and a moderator can delete anything that does not belong. Deletion is the only outcome that affects you, since an image is visible either way until then.
