You do not need an account to read Entropia Central. The wiki, globals feeds, leaderboards, avatar profiles and event pages are all public. An account is what you need to be credited for your own play: to claim your avatar, appear on leaderboards as yourself, enter events, run your own, and use Entropia Central Tracker.

## Registering

Registration asks for three things:

| Field | Rules |
| --- | --- |
| Avatar name | Your Entropia Universe avatar name, 3 to 100 characters |
| Email address | Must not already be registered |
| Password | At least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a digit |

Symbols are allowed in passwords but not required. One account per email address.

The avatar name is the field that matters most, and it is the one people get wrong. Enter it exactly as it appears in game, including spacing and capitalisation, because everything you are credited for is matched on that name.

## What happens to your avatar name

When you register, we immediately try to link that avatar to your account. One of three things happens, and the site tells you which:

**It was linked.** The avatar already existed in our database, unclaimed, and it is now yours. This is the usual outcome for anyone who has ever globalled, because the avatar record was created the first time one of their globals was tracked. Your profile fills in with your history straight away, and any event rewards that were waiting on that avatar are credited to you.

**It is already claimed.** Somebody else registered with that avatar name first. Nothing is taken from you automatically. Contact support with proof of ownership and it can be moved.

**It was not found.** No avatar with that name exists in our database yet, which simply means nothing of yours has ever been tracked. The record is created automatically the first time you global while tracked, and it links to you then. You can also contact support to claim it sooner. This is not an error, and there is nothing to fix.

The third case surprises people who expect the site to know their avatar already. We only know avatars we have seen.

## Verifying your email

Registration sends a verification email. **You cannot sign in until you click the link in it.** If it has not arrived, check spam first, then use the resend option on the sign-in page.

Resending always reports the same message whether or not an unconfirmed account exists for that address. That is deliberate, so the form cannot be used to find out which email addresses are registered here.

## Signing in with Google or Apple

Both web and mobile offer Google sign-in, and Apple sign-in is available on web and iOS. It is the same account system, not a separate one.

Two things are worth knowing:

**A social sign-in does not know your avatar name**, since Google and Apple have no idea what you are called in Entropia Universe. You will be asked for it once, and the same three outcomes above apply.

**Signing in with a provider that matches an existing account asks before it links.** You choose whether to link the two or keep them separate. Nothing is merged silently, so you cannot end up with your history split across two accounts you did not mean to create.

You can link or unlink providers later from connected accounts in your dashboard. Set a backup password before you remove your only sign-in method: unlinking the provider you sign in with, on an account that has no password, locks you out of your own account.

## If you cannot sign in

**Five failed attempts locks the account for five minutes.** The lock clears on its own; waiting is faster than anything else you might try.

Use forgot password to reset. As with resending confirmation, the response is the same whether or not the address is registered.

If you signed up with Google or Apple and have no password set, use the same provider to sign in. You can set a backup password from your dashboard afterwards, which is worth doing before you need it.

## Deleting your account

Deletion is in your dashboard. It asks for your password and for you to type `DELETE` exactly, and it takes effect immediately with no recovery period.

What is removed and what stays is covered in detail in [your data and privacy](https://www.entropiacentral.com/documentation/account/your-data-and-privacy#deleting-your-account). The short version: your account goes, your avatar's tracked history does not, because it is public game history rather than personal data, and it becomes unclaimed so you could claim it again with a new account.
